Check out the exterior renovation at 364 12th Street between 6th and 7th avenues. The new version looks reasonably tasteful to us, but then again we didn’t have a problem with the original facade. Also of interest: Although you can’t see it in this photo, a peek through the construction fence reveals that the original entryway has been removed altogether. What do you think of it? GMAP

  1. I suppose a lot could be forgiven if you covered up the left side with the skylight thereon down, it looks like a hillbilly afterthought. Its renovated, i like the new brick color actually. Ah well, at least its not a fedders building.

  2. Granted that cheap-looking newish multi-family to the right may be setting a tone for the neighborhood, but this would be a good candidate for the Old House Journal’s “re-muddling” page. The one saving grace here is that they’re restored the original doorway at the top of the stoop (that window above the bumped-out entry was the original front door). Still, as my PS broker friends always remind me, the easiest way to devalue a home in a historic neighborhood is to eliminate the period details, and if you want to lose $100,000 overnight, just take off the cornice.
