We’ve had a couple readers ask about the egg signage up at 564 Vanderbilt Avenue, between Dean and Bergen streets. It’s the under-construction spot for Empire Mayo, the small-batch gourmet mayo shop that first debuted at Smorgasburg and the Brooklyn Flea. (The shop was covered by Brooklyn Based last month.) According to the Empire Mayo Facebook page, construction on the store has wrapped and the owners are just waiting on paperwork to come through. They were hoping to open by mid-February. GMAP

  1. BBQ sauce craze of the 90’s – meet the future mayo craze of the twenty-teens! or not, who knows. i just made that up. pickles are hot, so maybe one of those, plus a catsup and a mustard an a BBQ sauce store all in a row and this could be the USA’s first “condiment row” (and a condoms and mints store next to it just for laughs). who’s with me!!! (….silence…..)

  2. Ignore the noise. As a good southerner, transplanted to brooklyn, i know the value of good mayonnaise — both hellmans and homemade. I’ll come visit you guys and be hoping for the best from you & for you.
