Another Vietnamese Sandwich Shop Coming to the Slope

The old Scaredy Kat spot on 5th Avenue between President and Carroll has a new tenant coming: A Vietnamese sandwich and bubble tea shop is filling the small space, according to a sign that’s gone up in the window. If the rumor about the other banh mi place on 5th Avenue turns out to be true, that’ll mean there are four banh mi joints in the Slope, two on 5th Ave and two on 7th. GMAP
5th Ave? I thought the Chinese and Vietnamese stuff was on 8th and that 5th was mostly Hispanic around there.
Snark, I just go to 5th Ave b/w 50th and 59th streets, and whichever place looks busier, I go in. Not scientific, but very delicious…
Hey lesloaf, bupe (et al),
What are your favorite Vietnamese places in Chinatown or Sunset Park?
We regularly take the Q to Canal St. for a decent bowl of Pho. If a good Vietnamese place opened in the North Slope, we’d be there daily!
Hanco’s ain’t that great, as far as Banh Me go, nor particularly inexpensive. Still, better than nothing, and I don’t have to shlep to Sunset Park. In this case, convenience beats quality…
And yes, 11217, a good pho place would be SO appreciated in SoSlope, let alone an actual Vietnamese restaurant…
Rob, Viet Cong food is more like “Apocalypse Now”… Like the scene where they drop the severed head in Martin Sheen’s lap… except they serve it to you on a bed of ice berg lettuce with a pot of tea.
^ calm down i was only joking with you!

Rob,
I know this might shock you, but most people appreciate the tips on what is opening in our neighborhood. I know you don’t for the most part, but you are probably in the minority. My neighbors are eager to hear about the neighborhood news and enjoy spending money on supporting our local businesses.
It’s one of the many reasons why I enjoy living here so much…people care. Some of them, anyway.
