Another Vietnamese Sandwich Shop Coming to the Slope

If the rumor about the other banh mi place on 5th Avenue turns out to be true, that’ll mean there are four banh mi joints in the Slope, two on 5th Ave and two on 7th. GMAP
benson, nevermind. i did just shop there last week 🙂 i go there. i was slightly thrown off when someone mentioned it was kinda expensive and talking about smoe other kind of store so i thought it was something else… what is D2 then? there are two big variety stores i shop in that area and this week someone mentioned d2 and i thought that was this i think, unless they are the same kind of store, which the two that i do are.. but yeah one is on the corner. great store!
those stores remind me of growing up in bergeline avenue and kennedy boulevard in north bergen and jersey city growing up!
you cant go wrong with getting your dainties from those stores, even tho they label them as slightly irregular.. (which they never feel irregular so maybe im irregularly shaped to begin with. oh well)

Sorry, Snark – my bad… 8th Ave it is.
Rob;
It is a “variety” store that sells everything from houseware to toys to some clothes. It is located on the corner of 8th Street and 5th Ave. Brooklyn used to have alot of stores like this one, but “Save on 5th” is one of the last of the breed.
Check it out!
what is save on 5th? is that the hardware store?

Agreed! Save on Fifth isn’t cheap, but it’s a great store. And Leopoldi’s is the best. They always seem to have what I need.

I hear they’re opening a new bodega in tho old lesbian bar on 4th Ave. Opening special: 1/2 price forties and 2 free loosies with every pack. Rob, you heard it here first.
YAY! actually, the bodegas in the slope really better get on the damn selling loosies thing! tho honestly i dont think ive asked any if they do, but then again ive never really seen loosies being sold like i used to in harlem and the les when i lived in those places. i guess it couldnt hurt to ask, but i dont think ive needed a loosie in a long time. plus it’s a rip off

benson, Leopoldi’s at least is a multi-generational family biz and they own the building, so it’s easier for them. Don’t know about Save on 5th. Western Beef was the same and damn he sold out right in the nick of time!

This weekend it dawned on me: restaurants may come and go on 5th Ave, but what matters most to me is that Leopoldi’s Hardware and “Save on 5th” remain. These stores are neighborhood treasures. Good people run both places.
My comments are completely irrelevant to the above discussion, but just wanted to let you know!
