After an arson fire in May 2014 forced it to close its bucolic cafe and farm stand in a Stuyvesant Heights stable and garden, Bread Love moved east. It opened July 4 at 1933 Fulton Street in a more conventional storefront — but there is still outdoor space in the backyard.
The hours and menu have expanded to include dinner as well as breakfast, lunch and brunch. Menu items change daily and prices are reasonable — a recent dinner was $12, including sides.
As before, there are grocery items, including free range eggs and organic produce from nearby farms, as well as house made baked goods. New is soft serve ice cream.
Recent options included a burger, lemon chicken, fried green tomatoes, and seasonal greens. Bread Love also operates a cafe at the Weeksville Heritage Center.
The new location, between Howard and Saratoga, is about five blocks from the first one.

I wish them the best of luck. Great to see them back in the neighborhood. (I think the heart should be the ‘o’ in love and not the ‘e’).
Yes, their first place closed because they didn’t pay sales tax. Not sure what happened with the arson, but apparently it was a former employee. I’m not sure if they had insurance. I did see the decatur location for lease by fillmore. The listing is gone and I wonder if it’s been leased – it would be great for something to open there. The new location is so far away from the old one that I doubt I will go any time soon.
I had heard that the Peaches people would be opening something where the pantry was, but it doesn’t look like it. Perhaps they have a good excuse, but it seems a little selfish to hoard such a prime location . Still keeping my fingers crossed though.
What’s the deal is with 375 Stuyvesant Ave? Who owns it? Is it true there’s a deed that limits sale options? (I’ll beg Montrose Morris’s forgiveness if she knows the answer.)
.
Also, as much as I liked Bread Love, it seemed snake-bitten. Violations at their first place. A fire at their second.
.
Finally, and on a similar note, how long are the Peaches folks going to keep that prime Lewis Ave corner location as a boarded up office? Pretty crappy for the neighborhood.
.
Hope everyone’s well!
