Looks like somebody’s got yet another plan for the space on the corner of Smith and Pacific. The short-lived Bueno, along with the old outdoor Trout space behind it, was boarded up again a couple of weeks ago. In recent history, this restaurant space has been home to Since 1963, Trout, and Gravy. The corner gets plenty of foot traffic and next door neighbor Pacifico has managed to stay open for a while now, but nothing seems to be working out here. Anyone know what’s going on in there?

  1. I have it on excellent authority that this will be a locavore restaurant specializing in New York’s abundant and renewable resource: rats.

Much like the lobsters in Bookbinder’s, you will be able to select your meal from a cage, or perhaps club it yourself as it scurries beneath your table.

The new enterprise will, of course, be called Baby Jane’s.

  2. In fact, a lot of Smith Street is just dirty and ragged-looking and needs a wash-down with a big soapy brush.

    I agree.

  3. That corner is straight up nasty. In fact, a lot of Smith Street is just dirty and ragged-looking and needs a wash-down with a big soapy brush.

  4. Perhaps every restaurant has rats, but this was the first time a rat the size of pig came lumbering out from under the table next to us just as soon as we sat down!!

  5. more schlock from Mamary and company I’m sure.
Wish they would tear the whole corner down and redevelop it.
And not all restaurants have rats. Maybe all the ones with outdoor space do though. When you are eating in all those gardens….rats are waiting for you to drop crumbs.
