Address: 664 Jefferson Ave, between Stuyvesant and Malcolm X
Type: Private House
Neighborhood: Bedford Stuyvesant, Stuyvesant Heights East
Year Built: 1870’s
Architectural Style: Italianate
Architect: Unknown
Why chosen: This is a fine example of a middle class Brooklyn Italianate frame house. Bed Stuy is not known for them, yet they can be found throughout the neighborhood. This one is in close to original condition, with beautiful gingerbread trim on the porch, original fish scale shingles, and a strong cornice. The present colors have great curb appeal, and it’s a wonderful gem of a house. GMAP
No, newelyork, you did speak to Mr. Keith. I too asked the questions about the condition of all the systems. You must have really rubbed him the wrong way.
You are correct on one point. It is a short sale. However the amount owed to the bank is $350,000. The “available” price that you quoted of $250,000 is merely speculation as to what the bank might accept. But you have all the facts and I’m only interested in the color.
I hope you don’t typically have the same sort of interaction with DOB inspectors in your line of business.
“it must suck to post at night… ” (rob)
Yes, yes it does.
OK, budding Scavullo’s, I took this picture on the fly on a very sunny day, it’s slightly crooked because I was trying to get the sun to be blocked behind the building next door, which is why there are blobs on the building, it’s the sun. I tried to clean it up, but couldn’t really do much with it. I still really like the house, so I went with it anyway.
Denton, I appreciate all professional photo lessons! I never claimed to know what I’m doing, I’m just lucky. 🙂
when im eating dinner i always come back to do a quick round of all the funny threads because some posters tend to only post at night and their humor (and sometimes informational insights) need to be ‘preciated. the one thing i hate about blogs in general versus regular message boards is that blogs are so daytime oriented… which isnt a bad thing, but it must suck to post at night… tree falls in the forest type thing, but im listening!!! hahahha well until dinner.. making baked ravioli tonight
*rob*
DIBS, I think I actually spoke to a colleague of Mr. Keith’s. I spoke with him awhile back, and I don’t remember him to have been unfriendly, just not helpful in regards to considering this property seriously.
Maybe you got more gracious attention due to your celebrity status.
I guess in future househunting I will just stick to asking what color it is, so as not to come off as a know-it-all like all other architects and engineers.
” asked if i was the “dave from brownstoner!”
Dave finally has his 15 minutes of fame! LOL! It’s all been worth it! : P
The realtor was a really nice and friendly guy, just like the woman who answered the phone. She apparently was a bit wary of being called a “lurker” but I explained that.
I don’t know how newelyork rubbed him the wrong way but I can imagine. I suspect because he’s an architect/engineer he came off as a bit of a know-it-all.
“She was a lovely sounding woman and asked if i was the “dave from brownstoner!!!”
Causing Dave to get his first-ever female-inspired stiffy.
