Brownstoner is seeking an intern. If you have a passion for all things Brooklyn and own a digital camera, we would like to hear from you. Journalism grad school students are especially welcome, though that is not a prerequisite. The position is unpaid but the hours will not be onerous. Please email gabby [AT] brownstoner.com if you’re interested in applying.

  1. whilst this would contribute to the headline statistic that 50% of recent grads are un or under-employed, in light of this situation it does prove something to future employers: it shows you are responsible, can show up on time, and rather than laying on the couch like many of your peers you got out there and took initiative and did something. you can honestly look your future bosses in the eye and say you will do whatever it takes.

I have heard so many young people like “yeah, it only pays $8.50 an hour and its not easy work so screw it”.

People in positions of responsibility and authority want to hire responsible, honest, hardworking people. When you are young, you can build a lot with just these two – – combined with making every opportunity you can for yourself.

Now, whether working for a blog looks great on paper I can’t say, but the recommendation from Mr B is something other unemployed competition won’t have when the job market comes back for younger people.
