Beyond Brooklyn Assists Locals Looking for Their Next Move

People are leaving the city, and in particular Brooklyn, in great numbers. While this is not a new phenomenon, it’s different this time around.

Many people love living in New York City, but find that once they start a family, more space is what they dream about. And it’s easy to feel priced out of neighborhoods with the rising cost of living here.

The difference now is that many people are reluctant to leave. They love the community they’ve developed and feel that they won’t be able to re-create it in the suburbs.

After noticing this trend, Compass real estate agents Jessica Fields and Alexandra Foucard started Beyond Brooklyn in 2014. The twice-yearly seminar helps city dwellers understand the differences between the various suburban communities outside the city.

Beyond Brooklyn is an opportunity for Brooklynites to speak to experts about communities in the metro area without actually having to travel long distances to them. “We’re bringing the suburbs to you,” Foucard explains.

A panels of experts on towns in New Jersey, Westchester County, the Hudson River Valley, and Long Island offer helpful, raw truth about relocating and the nuances that distinguish one suburban neighborhood from another — keeping in mind the desire to maintain the aspects that people love about New York City.

The speakers all lived either in Brooklyn or Manhattan before moving out of the city themselves.

Acting as a full-service relocation group, the team at Beyond Brooklyn helps to make transitioning outside the city seamless. By strategizing about when to make a move and how to manage a sale in the city with a purchase in the suburbs, the team makes the process of moving much less stressful.

The first Beyond Brooklyn event of 2017 will take place at The Commons at 388 Atlantic Avenue in Cobble Hill on Thursday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. Registration is $10. For more information or to sign up for Beyond Brooklyn, click here.
