When Andriy Mykyta first started his company in 2015, he named it Total Window Service because of the breadth of offerings: residential window tinting for UV protection, energy savings, safety, and privacy — and window cleaning too, in all five boroughs and Long Island, in residential and commercial buildings of all sizes.

Where Mykyta differentiated himself was in the aspect of safety. When he first began working for a window company back in 2007, he noticed that the industry was lacking on safety standards, with little emphasis on training — especially for rope-access works. “I performed many risky operations at heights without extra safety, as I wasn’t trained and supplied with proper safety equipment,” he said. “It was a ‘fun time,’ but in building my company, I wanted to sleep well at night knowing that my employees are trained and know how to perform work safely.”

So he got himself trained in SPRAT, OSHA, IWCA, and many other safety qualifications and committed himself to raising industry standards. He’s led a transformative overhaul of equipment and the implementation of training based on new operational norms.

These strategic changes proved to be highly effective, particularly in high-rise buildings, making rope-access cleaning a lot easier. It made the job safer — and faster.

Window tinting
A big portion of Total Window Service‘s business is solar window tinting. “Having tint on the window is a smart upgrade to any building,” said Mykyta. “Home or apartment owners looking to protect their floors, furniture, and artwork from UV and who wish to make their building more energy efficient have a wide range of options.”

Schools and office buildings call him with a specific problem — glare. “We have often been asked to solve a problem with glare reduction in schools and offices because glare makes it hard to see a projection screen,” he said.

Glass scratches and graffiti
Mykyta gets lots of calls to repair glass scratches. “I came across many owners that used window cleaners without proper training and the result was devastating because windows were scratched in the process,” he said, adding that his company also removes hundreds of acid graffiti tags every year all over the city.

In his own way, Mykyta’s company helps buildings transform themselves. “After we perform our service, our clients are happy. They often regret that they waited for so long and didn’t clean or tint their windows,” he said. “To see people happy and appreciate the value you bring them is the best part of our job.”
