About

WHO ARE WE?

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City (BBBS of NYC) serves over 5,000 youth annually through several mentoring programs that meet the needs of children in New York City. We provide evidenced-based, impactful mentoring relationships, case management, and educational support to at-risk youth ages 7-18 (up to 21 for teen mothers and youth in foster care). Nearly all of our youth are raised in low-income, single-parent homes.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We offer a variety of mentoring programs designed to meet the unique and varied needs of New York City’s youth. Once matched, Littles in our Traditional Mentoring program meet twice a month with their mentor for 6-10 hours per month of enrichment, educational, sports, and/or cultural activities out in the community. In our Workplace Mentoring program, Bigs from participating companies meet students from area schools bi-weekly for one-to-one mentoring at their offices. Our Education Initiative offers Littles academic enrichment programs including college-readiness workshops and computer tutoring stations as well as action-oriented academic intervention programs for struggling students. For a full list of our programs, visit http://www.bigsnyc.org/whatwedo

At the center of each program you’ll find a Social Worker dedicated to the success of each Big/Little match and its outcomes. Our staff conducts monthly check-ins, case management and supervision of all parties in the relationship, including parents/caregivers.
