Just a month after Stuy Heights’ first Mexican restaurant opened, Oaxaca Taqueria is prepping its 10th location a block away. When we passed by the corner of Halsey and Lewis recently, we saw the mini chain is putting in a colorful storefront at 478 Halsey Street.

The last we checked in, in January, one of the agents in the deal let us know the taqueria was in talks for the space, but had not yet signed a lease. The restaurant will open “in a couple of weeks,” he told us — late this month or in September.

Although the two restaurants are close by, Brownstoner doubts Stuy Heights can have too many Mexican restaurants. Tepache Mexican Grill at 361 Halsey Street has been very busy since it opened in July.

The building was home to a medical center for years. The building sold in October for $1,200,000, according to public records.

Oaxaca has another location in Bed Stuy, in the western part of the neighborhood, at 1116 Bedford Avenue.
