white-castle-062013The Williamsburg outpost of White Castle, on Metropolitan Avenue near Humboldt Street, might have to move. The Brooklyn Paper reports that a developer purchased the 11,447-square-foot parcel, which includes the drive-through lane and parking, for $6.72 million. (The burger chain opened in 1992 but the owners couldn’t afford the property back then.) The owner of White Castle is in negotiations with his new landlord to extend the lease, but he’s preparing for a move. It’s a prominent corner property one block away from the subway, and it’s zoned for both commercial and residential use. We’re guessing a housing development might be in the cards for the site. If White Castle does in fact have to move, the owners plan to open a new castle elsewhere in Williamsburg.
