Hurricane Sandy
The Huffington Post reports the River Cafe, right along the Dumbo waterfront, was practically destroyed by Sandy. The owner estimates millions of dollars’ worth of damage. Also in Dumbo, Governor and Bubby’s were hit hard. The owners plan to reopen sometime soon. The Red Hook Lobster Pound will be closed for a while due to no power and severe flooding. The Times also reported that Fort Defiance, on Van Brunt Street, has thousands of dollars worth of damage. Mile End’s production kitchen, also in Red Hook, was destroyed overnight, although the Boerum Hill restaurant was open yesterday. And the Brooklyn Paper covered the cleanup effort at Sunny’s Bar. In Coney Island, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria is wrecked and Paul’s Daughter lost its Mama Burger statue. Finally, the roof blew off the future site of Dinosaur BBQ in Park Slope, likely delaying the planned March 2013 opening. (Damage pictured above, via FIPS.)

Williamsburg
The Park Luncheonette on the corner of Driggs and Lorimer, which has been closed forever, will repoen. Eater says that Ted Mann (of Greenwood Park) is behind the opening, which will happen later this year under the same name. No word on the type of menu yet. The cafe House of Small Wonder closed on Skillman Avenue and repoened on North 6th Street. The cafe now serves breakfast and lunch but will expand to a full mid-day menu. And Oregano, what Zagat guesses to be an Italian joint, is slated for 100 Berry Street.

Elsewhere
In Park Slope, the popular dive O’Connors will reopen in about six weeks after extensive renovations. HPS says, “We won’t know the full extent of the reconstruction, and whether longtime bartenders like Chris and Matt (and the longtime regulars) will return, until the bar re-opens.” Boerum Hill pizza restaurant Krescendo will open Nov. 1 at 364 Atlantic Avenue. There will be two types of pizza ovens, Southern Italian pastas and desserts, and fancy cocktails. And a wood-fired pizza joint, called Vicolo, opened in Bay Ridge on 3rd Avenue.
