I understand that the owners of 160 Imlay St in Red Hook, Brooklyn, have been given the go ahead and already had plans figured out for…the giant decrepit building that mirrors the fixed up Christie’s warehouse. Apparently they do not intend to sell any of the spaces, but rent them out in the similar market price as [Greg] O’Connell’s with the Fairway building apartments.
The most recent building permit came through earlier this month, but it’s only for the installation of a sidewalk shed. Aside from that there are quite a few violations in place. The building, which is next to the Christie’s storage warehouse, was at the center of a legal battle triggered by its owner’s controversial plans to undertake a residential conversion. While the principal owner ultimately got a variance to convert 160, he ended up selling it to a partner a couple years ago. There hasn’t been any news about it since then, but obviously a plan to fix it up and carve out rentals would be a significant development for this section of the waterfront.
