Here’s a very impressive before and after: The exterior renovation of 58 Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights was completed this week. The inset photo shows what the firm Baxt Ingui Architects had to work with pre-reno. The wood-frame house is believed to date back to around 1814, and the facade was last altered in the ’50s. On the jump, a larger shot of what the house looked like before the renovation, as well as a tax photo from the ’40s. GMAP

  1. Boy, this house has been through a lot. What a beautiful restoration. I like the clever placement of the garage and the sideways stair. I guess most Brooklyn houses don’t have enough width for that.

  2. they did not want to reproduce the 1940’s facade exactly because they wanted to keep their grandfathered garage and curb cut. The new facade is the solution to the problem.

  3. kudos to Baxt Ingui, and to the young couple who bought the house, for this truly unbelievable transformation. I go out of my way just to walk by it and admire it.
