The board of On Prospect Park filed a lawsuit against its neighbor, the Union Temple of Brooklyn, according to the Post, alleging that parties at the synagogue are so loud they sometimes shake the Richard Meir-designed condo. Residents of the condo say the parties are noisy until all hours and have involved “‘yelling and screaming in the middle of the night, fighting and otherwise . . . rowdy’ behavior, including people urinating on neighboring buildings and double and triple parking.” The board wants the temple, which has rented out its ballroom for parties for two decades, to be barred from doing so in the future, and it’s seeking a minimum of $20 million in actual damages. The president of On Prospect Park’s board says attempts to negotiate with the synagogue went nowhere, while a lawyer representing Union Temple says the congregation has installed soundproofing and started policing events more rigorously since the suit was filed.

  1. If these events were going on before OPP was finished, then it sounds like the new neighbors didn’t do their due diligence when making their deals. And how is it that the other neighbors in buildings closer to the temple aren’t complaining? Reminds me of the story some years ago of the person who bought a house across the street from a bus depot, and then complained about all the buses!!!

  2. I have no idea if the parties are loud, inapproriate or otherwise a violation of city ordinance…but assuming that they are, I am not sure that the $20M damages suit is so crazy (high yes). The building probably contains $200M worth of RE listings – if the noise and commotion is really bad, it might hurt resale/value 10% if people stay away from the building because of unruly neighbors.
Again, I have no idea about the merits of the suit, but to judge it based on the claim amount seems inappropriate here.

  3. That’s true- we’ve had cars drive by that made the house shake- and we’re talking a solidly built limestone with really thick walls.

I think it will still go to court though, because the demand to stop renting out for events impacts the synagogue’s finances.

  4. I remember propjoe. Not fondly. He was banned, after saying he was sorry Hitler didn’t finish the job. omar smells all right. To high heaven.

  5. I’m from the Bronx all right. born and raised.

As to your skin color- it’s been my experience when a troll tries too hard to be something, it screams fake. I live in a Black neighborhood, have Black family members, and Black friends. Have for years and trust me when I tell you none of them writes in ebonic.

You have made it a point to try to stir up black-white issues on other threads and you’re trying to play the same game now on this one. Sorry Omar- but you ain’t got the chops.

  6. Tossing in the gratuitous “yo” still doesn’t make you a Black man. So tell us, do you use bleach on your white sheets with the eye holes?
