The Times reports on the launch of Dumbo Wi-Fi, a new, free wireless network that’s the “only one of its kind in New York.” The service, which is designed to be available in the neighborhood’s outdoor spaces, is the product of a partnership between Dumbo’s BID and developer Two Trees, according to the article. Tucker Reed, the director of special projects for Two Trees, says helping to fund the network made sense to the firm in terms of attracting people to the neighborhood.

  1. As the free wifi is a private initiative, I don’t see the connection between Dumbo and Atlantic Center. It is a tangible benefit for everyone down in DUMBO for sure. And yes it would be good to have free wifi for those who can’t afford it in other parts of the city but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a cool thing rob.

how about the visitors and the 5000 young workers who work in the atlantic center mall? hmmm?

    *rob*

  3. “Duh with duh sauce.”

Best phrase ever! I have to use that one. Thanks, Chris!

I think it’s a wise business move, and will bring even more people into the area, which is good for shops and businesses. I don’t care that I can’t afford to hang out there, I’m glad to see anywhere doing well.

  4. The rich people stay inside and use their own. This is for visitors, and the 5000 young workers who come there everyday.
    Duh with duh sauce.

Two Trees invests in street cleaning via the BID and their own efforts, have made major strides on crime and safety, and charge below market rents to food retailers. No physical place for food co-op btw Bridges, has to go in VHill.
