We’re not sure if the current American love all of things mod has yet extended to A-frames. They were out of fashion for a long while, and their prices still reflect their pre-Mad Men status, but they’ve caught the eye of some Upstater writers before.

98 Upper Whitfield, Accord, NY

If A-frames get a bad rap for not having enough natural light, this one in Accord, NY seems an exception…

Three beds, two baths, 1,487 square feet and a decorative window out front.

It has a woodstove, deck, and 1.19 acres, which include a pond. There’s not much in the town of Accord itself, but it’s very close to Rosendale, High Falls and Stone Ridge, which have good restaurants, decent groceries and good services.

5207 Route 52, Ellenville, NY

We wrote about this place last year: a two-bed, one-and-a-half bath on over an acre in Ellenville. We like what they’ve done with it, especially painting the woodwork white on the inside, which keeps it from having a claustrophobic feel.

We think it would benefit from a mini-reno: modernizing the kitchen, perhaps a sleeker balustrade, pulling up that carpet. But it has plenty to recommend it, including the taxes: $3,752 a year. Ellenville isn’t a town of tremendous curb appeal, but it has lots of services. The price has been cut by $5,000 since we last checked in.

2474 Bouchouxville Road, Hancock, NY

This Hancock, NY A-frame is a riverfront property, right on the Delaware. Three beds, two baths and 1,900 square feet, making it a wee bit roomier than some of the other upstate New York A-frames we uncovered this week.

Like all of them, it’s heavy on the wood paneling, but it’s roomier than many houses this shape, with an open “great room” with river views. It was built in the 80s, not the 50s or 60s, and sits on over eight acres.

Waterfall House, Roxbury

This three-bedroom A-frame in rapidly hip-ifying Roxbury, NY rents for $2,000 a month. It has a game room and a fireplace, and, of course, that waterfall in the backyard. We happen to like the red kitchen, too. But mostly, yeah, the waterfall.
