We feel that the town of Esopus doesn’t get enough press. Located in Ulster County along the shores of the Hudson River, the town is one of the prettiest around. Rich in vegetation, not to mention incredible river views, Esopus consists of several smaller burgs, such as Port Ewen and Ulster Park. Less than two hours from Brooklyn (in that perfect world where traffic never happens), Esopus is also home to one of our favorite places to hike and explore: Black Creek Preserve. If you haven’t been there, schedule a time to head up north and check it out. Don’t forget your camera. You’re going to need it. Meanwhile, take a look at some houses around town.

Two words: Tree house. This place has one. And it’s adorable. The house is pretty fairy tale-like itself, with enchanting details and lots of lovely land. Apparently someone else thinks so, too, which is why its status is “pending.” Beds: 2. Baths: 1.5. Square Feet: 1,085. Lot Size: 3.42 acres. Taxes: $5,679.

You want views? You’ll get them in this one-bedroom cottage in Esopus. It’s not very big, just a little less than 800 square feet, but we envision this as an excellent escape hatch from a busy life, particularly given its fairly private location. Beds: 1. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 784. Lot Size: 4.3 acres. Taxes: $4,541.

We wish we could see what’s going on inside this house in the hamlet of Port Ewen, but alas, it is not to be. In fact, it appears that it needs renovating based on the listing. It is, however, on the Hudson River in what looks like a beautiful spot. Beds: 2. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 576. Lot Size: .33 acres. Taxes: $6,146.

There’s not much in the hamlet of Rifton, other than a fire station and a school, but this farmhouse is within close proximity to several bodies of water: The Sturgeon Pool, the Wallkill River, the Rondout, and the Swarte Kill, which seems great for someone who likes to canoe or kayak. House is cute, decently priced, and situated on nearly an acre. Beds: 5. Baths: 1.5. Square Feet: 1,968. Lot Size: .89 acre. Taxes: $5,130.
