Fridays at 11, Brownstoner Upstate brings you a selection of properties within three hours north, and a little east or west, of New York City.

After spending a day last week in the city (lower case “c”) of Hudson, we’re headed back to Catskills country today and paying a visit to the Delaware County town of Roxbury, a great place with one of our favorite town parks (see above), a fabulous hotel, a new general store, and some gorgeous scenery. Roxbury is located approximately two hours and 40 minutes from New York City. Here are three getaways certain to satisfy your need for seclusion.

This is a good choice for an midrange priced house that’s fairly new, in great shape, on plenty of land with mountain views, and only a few miles from the heart of the village. Lots of windows bring in the outdoors, and it comes with a detached two-car garage. Beds: 3. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 1,454. Lot Size: 4 acres. Est. Taxes: $3,273.

Looking for something a little less contemporary and a lot more rustic? How about a cute cabin in the woods? This one is located within the neighborhood of Roxbury Run, which offers residents access to facilities like a pool and tennis courts, although they pay dues for that access. But the house is not expensive, and while we occasionally recoil at knotty pine, it looks just fine in a house like this. Beds: 3. Baths: 1.5. Square Feet: 1,500. Lot Size: 1.5 acres. Est. Taxes: $3,814.

And now for something completely different: A shipping container. This is great if you’re looking for something unconventional and considering adopting a tiny-house lifestyle. The garage door windows provide oodles of natural lighting, and there is a bathtub (not always easy to find in a 640-square-foot space) and a large deck. The kitchen, however, might take a bit of getting used to. Best of all, it’s located on over six acres and still walking distance to town. Beds: 2. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 640. Lot Size: 6.15 acres. Est. Taxes: $1,896.

Being “Brownstoner, Brooklyn Inside and Out” you should really change your travel times to be to/from Brooklyn. How many years have you guys been at this? Isn’t it time to break free from Manhattan already? You might be able to make it to Roxbury in 2 hours and 40 minutes with a running start from the GWB at 4am on a Wednesday.
Just looked at the listing of the log babin (sic). Really really cute. would have done different color (green maybe) kitchen cabinets but other than that I could really be happy there.
The log cabin is really cute and love the windows in the shipping container.
No thanks. I like some meat on bones.
