A reader inquired about a new modern building at 556 Fifth Avenue in the South Slope. Yes, it stands out from its neighbors both in height—it used to be a single story building, reborn as a five-story, eight-unit building—and aesthetics. Turns out, the building is being marketed with a sister development on 264 Cumberland in Fort Greene as “classic modern“—the name of their campaign, which proposes the building as the melding of Victrolas and iPods (a rendering of the interiors is on the jump). Prices for The Fifth Avenue Modern Park Slope will range from $489,900 to the $950,000 or so.

industrial look…..
Ya know, I pass that all the time, and never dreamed it was apartments. Looks like medical offices or something.
5th Ave is noisy and ugly at that intersection, so there wasn’t much in the way of vernacular charm to preserve. But it’s also right across the street from that big Supportive Housing SRO site, so it will be a construction nightmare soon.
oldrte10…yes, very much Bauhaus as well. But we knew Tokyo and Berlin have shared a common past now didn’t we?
classic ugly.
alvar aalto it ain’t
Berlin 1960
I could be wrong but the depth of the overhang is not legal.
I’m telling you all it looks like typical Tokyo architecture. I fully expect four stories of neon to be put up with signs for Karaoke lounges and saki bars along with; hopefully, a few 10′ X 20′ host or hostess lounges!!!
Your planet destroyed in 30 minutes or it’s free.
I like the overhang also.
