back in the 90s when the tapeworm diet was big a lot of people would get a tapeworm when they quit so they wouldnt gain weight, but there’s some risks to having a tape worm.

that is what scares me about quitting smoking. my only reason to quit is purely financial as the cost has gotten out of control and spending 400 dollars a month and being broke all the time (like ALL the time) sucks. cigarettes help me deal with all my wound up nervous energy tho, and i like them in social situations because you can always use it as an excuse to get out of conversations you cant be asked to take part in or just a nice escape. i just dont like how expensive they are, it’s actually quite unfair. everytime i find a black market dealer i wind up getting chinese bootleg newports and they taste really bad and who knwos what is in them (not that there’s not a gazillion bad things in regular cigarettes, but still, there could be ground up chinese babies in them for all we know. that one child per person rule! where you think all the other children go?)
Arkady, I didn’t feel bad either. I quit for a boyfriend, after smoking for 20 years. I was smoking a pack a day when I quit. The first year I got a lot of colds and such–maybe just a coincidence, maybe my body adjusting. But after a year, I definitely felt healthier. My mouth felt a lot nicer. If I got a cold, the symptoms were not so disgusting–no gray mucus, ugh.
About a year after that, I was staying at my brother’s, where he had open cigarette packs all over the house. One night I lit up a cigarette and I could feel my chest get tight and my mouth taste disgusting. I knew I was done with it.
However, I gained 5 lbs. a year for the next 20 years.
My ex was a musician with a 3 octave voice. Smoked over a pack a day from his early teens. Woke up one morning with a horrible sore throat and quit cold turkey. Never smoked again. Voice went from 3 to 4 octave range.

Acxtually that would be OK….there are far worse things in them, more carcinogenic than “real” cigs.

rf – One of the (few) good things about when I stopped is that I’d lost 25 lbs in the hospital so the weight gain was o.k.
I’m going to buy some duty free smokes in my way out of here today. It’s like $15 a carton!! I can’t afford NOT to buy them.

DIBS, that was mighty nice of you to try to help out BrooklynCouch in the Forum.
“They prolly know or know of each other, etson. My friend’s husband’s family is well-known for their business/company there.”
Yes, she still has a bunch of family there, although her close family are in the US now. Bit busy this am but will ask you about it offline sometime.
