Thinking about moving to Westchester? Local expertise is key, advised panelists at a recent Brownstoner webinar “Tips for Buying in Westchester.” Watch the free webinar here:

The webinar, part of the Brownstoner Home Event Series, featured Brian Scott Cohen, a senior loan originator at GR Affinity, who offered the advice: “When you start the home-buying process, talk to a mortgage professional who’s local. There are a lot of online lenders with no New York presence who don’t understand New York closing costs and timeframe.”

Also present was Peter Topping, real estate agent at Coldwell Banker, who cautioned viewers about using online tools. “I see a lot of buyers using tools like Zillow, which is a great tool in itself. But there are a lot of inaccuracies in tools like that. So, you know, call your realtor to get yourself set up in a private search personalized to you as an individual.”

Houlihan Lawrence real estate agent Angela Kessel said: “We try not to waste anybody’s time, and we try and really focus because we know the market, we know every house on every street in the area, and we can cut your work down by 90 percent.”
