There are so many endearing details at 386 State Street. Located in Brooklyn’s leafy Boerum Hill neighborhood, the townhouse features exposed brick, a central staircase that winds from the ground floor to the top floor, exposed wooden beams, and two wood-burning fireplaces, both with carved marble mantels.

The heart of 386 State is its kitchen. Located in the front of the single-family row house on the ground floor, it has a Viking gas oven and six-burner range as well as a second Bosch electric oven, dishwasher and refrigerator. An island with both wooden and marble surfaces anchors the room.

Beyond is the charming dining room, with the aforementioned wood-burning fireplace and marble mantel, modern built-in storage and shelving, and exposed beams. A door leads outside to the back courtyard with wooden deck.

Also on the ground floor is a powder room. Opposite is a winding central stair with iron railing.

The entire second floor is living space comprising front and rear parlors with high ceilings and tall windows. The front parlor, currently set up as a formal dining room, can also be used as a living room. Its two windows have Greek Revival-style ear moldings and here is a second wood burning fireplace with marble mantel.

With built-in shelving and storage, the rear parlor functions as a family room, media room and library.

On the third floor is an expansive suite with bedroom, three closets and laundry. An enormous bathroom has both a deep soaking tub and separate walk-in shower.

The top floor has two spacious bedrooms, storage space and two skylights.

As much as there is to admire about this mid-19th century Italianate-Greek Revival brick house, equally attractive is the neighborhood surrounding it. A block away from Atlantic Avenue, 386 Street is within easy walking distance of Brooklyn’s main transportation hub, as well as a plethora of restaurants and cultural institutions such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Barclays Center.

Listed by Margherita Bonanno of Compass, the house is now asking $2.55 million, a drop of $300,000 from the $2.85 million price tag it debuted in May.
