Nonprofit arts and media organization BRIC has been a cornerstone of the Brooklyn arts scene since 1979, so it is a delight to announce that their newest venture BRIC TV, launched just last year, has received nine New York Emmy nominations. Add four more nominations for shows produced through BRIC’s Brooklyn Free Speech initiative, and that makes BRIC the 12th most nominated organization, tying with WABC and WCBS.
BRIC TV is a nonprofit cable channel and digital network leading the way for diversity in media, tackling tough issues that other networks shy away from. In the past year they have produced shows exploring such hot-button stories about race and incarceration, school segregation, Hasidic teens, and polyamory—just to name a few.
Under its former name of Brooklyn Independent Media, BRIC TV won their first NY Emmy in 2012, and they continue the tradition of sharing stories about the issues affecting the borough with local and hyper-local scripted series, news, and documentary programs.
