About
I’ve been passionate about everything home my entire life, but I really started to go gaga over home design when I had just started my career in publishing. I devoured countless design mags in my sleep, poured over their pages, tore out even the most mundane (a light switch?), and eventually found myself contributing to some of my most beloved design publications, opening a Greenpoint-based vintage shop, and eventually designing spaces for Homepolish.
I’ve learned a ton, but one thing that has always stuck out about the best-designed spaces—the truly AMAZING spaces—was how crucial it is to integrate that one big piece of well-loved furniture, the signed oil painting, and the patinaed objet. Older, well-built, odd, and colorful things can instantly transform a space and make every home special—I learned why from my mom, who’s a dealer from way back.
This is what I aim to do in each of my designs: Let’s always utilize vintage items to help create a storied, layered look that’s meaningful and truly evocative of your personal style—something polished yet lived-in and normal.
Let’s mix the old and the new, and the high with the low for a space that feels functional and uniquely you, as if its contents have been collected over time (versus chosen from a catalog 4-6 weeks earlier).
Projects and services range from the small (a fun upholstery project or one-day room refresh) to the medium (modified floor plans, redesigns, and extensive sourcing) and larger renovations that include moving walls, relocating plumbing and electricity, and custom built-ins.
I’ll always take a super-practical approach to design and firmly espouse Bunny Williams’ view, “If you love something, it will work.”
In living, designing, and working in NYC for 18+ years, I’ve also learned that every space—no matter the size or the price—has its challenges. Let’s solve them together!
Currently, I’m renovating my own brownstone home in Bedford Stuyvesant, working alongside architects, engineers, contractors (and more). Because I know quite a bit about costs (planned and unplanned), you can be sure I’ll always have the utmost respect for what your budget will allow.
