Yesterday marked the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Community Apartments, the affordable rental development tied into Kent Avenue mega-project The Edge. It is the largest inclusionary zoning project ever, with 347 units priced for a “medium income,” which for a family of four is considered to be $56,520. The project is part of Bloomberg’s New Housing Marketplace Plan which plans to build or preserve 165,000 units of affordable housing by 2014. Studios will be going for $886 a month, one-bedrooms for $995, and two-bedrooms for $1,198. This is a real victory in the fight to preserve the economic diversity of Brooklyn and ensure that our borough remains ‘proud home to everyone from everywhere’,” said Marty Markowitz. GMAP
Damning with faint praise, DH.
That’s a low price!!
Ha, dirt hip.
56,520*3/(10*12) = $1,413/mo, fundamental rent for a family of four while 2BR’s are $1,198. Makes sense to me. At least they’re in the ball park.
Now if we can just herd the market-rate sheep out of the slaughter house…
***Bid half off peak comps***
Is that the new Battery Park City?
Kinda funny – to me, the affordable housing component of The Edge looks much nicer than the actual towers.
