The lure of private outdoor space these days might make this pricey one-bedroom Williamsburg rental worth a look. It’s located on the top floor of a three-story townhouse at 49 South 1st Street, not far from the water.

Once one of a row of modest 19th century brick houses, the building is now just one of two left on a mostly commercial block. The Gothic-style fretwork that once adorned the cornice and can be seen in the 1940 tax photo is gone but it still retains its brick facade and simple brownstone lintels.

The interior got a renovation in 2006, filings show, transforming the building from a four-family to three. The architect of record is listed as Richard H. Lewis, the designer behind the bohemian overhaul of “Girls” star Jemima Kirke’s former Carroll Gardens townhouse as well as commercial projects like Balthazar and Tavern on the Green.

Inside this unit there’s wide-plank flooring and an unusual curved wood-burning fireplace in the living room. A rustic wood island separates the latter from the kitchen. Only a portion of the kitchen is shown, but it’s got an assortment of artfully scuffed wood cabinetry, a blue mosaic tile backslash and a stainless bar sink.

The bedroom has the feel of a sun porch with large windows on two exposures, providing sunlight and views toward the water. It looks like the only closet in the apartment is at the entrance to the unit.

The wide-plank flooring continues into the bathroom, which has modern green subway tile combined with a vintage tub, sink and lighting fixtures. There is a washer-dryer in the unit.

The standout is the private roof deck, reached via a staircase in the living room. There’s wood decking, room for chairs and views towards the Williamsburg Bridge. The building is just a few blocks from Domino Park and the development on Kent Avenue, so how long those views will last is not clear. For now, though, the deck provides some personal fresh air space.

It’s listed by Nadine Adamson and Kelsey Hall of Brown Harris Stevens and is asking $4,500 a month. There is no broker fee, the listing specifies. Worth the price?
