With high ceilings, wood floors, and windows on three sides, this Williamsburg one-bedroom has charm and appears to get good light. It is one of two apartments over a storefront in a circa 1860s brick building at 233 Wythe Avenue, on the corner of Metropolitan Avenue.

A map of 1868 seems to show the brick building and its adjoining twin already standing and the markings indicate both buildings had stores on the ground floor. While there was a saloon in the shop in the early 20th century, by the time of the circa 1940 tax photo the signage was for a delicatessen with prominent signs for Coca-Cola, Beech-Nut Coffee, and Camel Cigarettes. The storefront, whose address is 101 Metropolitan Avenue, currently holds Jones Road Beauty.

The residential entrance is on Wythe Avenue; the listing doesn’t specify if the walkup is on the second or third floor. As shown in the photos, it has a generously sized dining room and living room. The petite bedroom, which fits a queen bed, according to the listing, is reached via an arched doorway from the living room. The layout could also be configured as a two-bedroom or a one-bedroom with office, the listing says.

Wood floors and tin ceilings stretch throughout most of the apartment. The bedroom has a walk-in closet, and the ceilings are 11 feet high, the listing specifies.

The kitchen is at the rear of the unit; a fire escape looks out towards the former Wythe Diner site. There isn’t a dishwasher, but there are wood cabinets and room for a small table.

Gabi Svec of Corcoran has the listing, and the pad is priced at $3,950 a month. What do you think?
