Yep, Copenhagen is exactly like Iraq.
Oh, never mind me. I’m cranky today.
This is a terrible idea.
I say that as a bike rider who lived on Smith between Butler and Baltic for over 3 years. In all that time I avoided Smith like the plague when I was out for a ride on my bike.
The danger comes a lot from whatever it is about the street that causes drivers to do insane things and act incredibly aggressively. It’s just a ludicrous waste of city time and resources to promote an activity on a street that has so many other issues.
Frankly, knowing how I’ve driven on Smith, on occasion, makes me worry about the safety of bikers like me with drivers like me on that stretch.
Good point, *rob*
That whole cradle of civilization thing is way overrated.
i probably would copenhagen and many european cities actually.
and ditmas, one doesnt need to visit a place to know if they like it or not. im pretty sure i’d hate iraq… and im pretty sure you would too

P Sloper – that’s Hudson, actually…starts around the Bleecker St playground.
I just saw the picture of the bike lane on PPW. Now THAT”S the way to do it!
Rob, you would actually love Copenhagen! Easy to get around, gay-friendly, great night life, very laid back. There’s nothing not to like about Copenhagen being an urban model for NYC (and in fact, it is — the bike lane initiative was inspired by Copenhagen).
Hey rob, you really should shut yer piehole about “cheesy european cities” until you have actually visited at least one.
Viewing Copenhagen on Google maps doesn’t count.

In Copenhagen
this aint copenhagen, and 99% of people living in nyc don’t want it to become copenhagen, or any cheesy european city for that matter.
