Rental of the Day: 95 Lexington Avenue

Lofty features include the exposed ductwork and the sealed yellow industrial door in the living room. There are also some nice perks like a washer/dryer unit and a newish-looking kitchen. The two and a half bathrooms are also a big plus. The rent come in at $2,700, which doesn’t sound too crazy. What do you think?

Oooof – we’ll good job you didn’t buy then – it’d be nasty to carry a mortgage at the moment if you’re unemployed. We bought -but in Westchester! Couldn’t make the figures work for a 3-bed in the city with a garden and a good commute and good schools at all three levels.
Yikes, sorry to her that Heather. Best of luck to you!
I can tell you one thing: those nice, festive young men at the social club are not hosting community dinners.
No, ditto, we ended up getting unemployed and now we don’t even know if we’re staying in the city. Arghhh. Did you buy?
“there’s prostitutes and strippers brought in on weekends and there was a murder there a few years back. The social club was very loud a few days ago with lots of young people hanging around and making a racket.”
sounds semi-fringe to me
heather – did you end up buying in the city? I seem to remeber you were in a simialr situation to me
this building used to be artist workspace (and was super cool)…this block used to be a crazy drug market (esp. across the street from this building) but that has been cleaned up. There is women’s homeless shelter/drunk tank next door, but it is pretty benign…more annoying is the social club at the end of the block…there’s prostitutes and strippers brought in on weekends and there was a murder there a few years back. The social club was very loud a few days ago with lots of young people hanging around and making a racket.
does the bedrooms have windows or are they those windowless rooms? if with windows, decent deal.
We thought about buying there or next door. $2700 seems okay to me, although I hate how large the kitchens are in those units. They take up most of the space.
When we worked out the numbers to buy with an FHA loan it was closer to $4K/month, which did seem excessive. $2700 seems about right.
