This two-bedroom rental at 502 Monroe in Bed Stuy looks well maintained and has some very cute details. That said, we’re not crazy about the interior paint color. This is also a few blocks away from that nice stretch of retail on Lewis Avenue. So, what say you? The rent comes in at $1,400 a month.

  1. I lived a block away from this apartment for 2 1/2 years. (after living 2 1/2 in a different part of Bed-Stuy) It’s not the condition of the apartment so much (agree with dirty hipster- pretty nice for a rental) as the location. Being smack in the middle of Bed-Stuy, it’s a haul to get any kind of groceries or other necessities. We were always taking the B52 to Trader Joe’s, walking out the small markets on Broadway, or picking stuff up on our way back from Manhattan. It gets exhausting.

We were paying $1200 for our floor-through which seemed like a deal at the time. But add in all the time to ride on the bus, walk a mile to the train, etc. and $1200 wasn’t such a bargain. We found a place in Red Hook for $1400 and our lives have changed dramatically.

  2. Since when did cheap rental kitchens come with matching appliances? It’s amazing they even bought a range that wasn’t the cheapest model they could find let alone bought any new appliances to begin with.

  3. For the area, it’s not cheap. As an owner/landlord, I’d rather spend an extra $500 on good paint and matched appliances/tiles every few years, and then get an extra $200 every single month! You get better tenants because you have a rare product (nice-looking rental) and can afford to be picky.
