With its eye-catching stepped side gables and broad front porch, this Prospect Park South standalone has some allure even before one gets to the detail-filled interior. For car owners, there is also the added attraction of a two-car garage with a Tesla charging station.

In the Prospect Park South Historic District, 135 Stratford Road is one of several houses on the block constructed between 1905 and 1906 by developers George T. and Lizzie Moore in conjunction with architect George E. Showers. Each house has a different design; at No. 135, Showers added some Colonial Revival details to the Flemish-style gables. Brownstoner columnist Suzanne Spellen described it as Colonial Revival with a twist, with a columned porch, sidelights and arched dormer windows added to the mix.

The single-family has the details of the period on the first floor such as wood floors, moldings, pocket doors and built-ins. Parlors flank the central entry, which has a bench built into the original stair and stained-glass sidelights around the door. The stained glass is repeated in at least one set of pocket doors leading to the parlors. One of the front parlors opens into the dining room, which has its period wainscoting and plate shelves as well as a built-in china cabinet with leaded glass doors.

Across the entry, the other parlor has been opened up to a renovated kitchen, with a peninsula separating the two. The transition from wood-filled rooms to an all-white kitchen with a tile floor is abrupt, but a few style tweaks might ease the shift. The kitchen has an expanse of cabinets, a second peninsula with room for seating and a windowed nook with room for a table. A glass-paned door provides access to the rear yard and a powder room is tucked next to a stair leading down to the basement.

Six bedrooms are spread across the top two floors. The largest is on the second floor and has three exposures, a window seat and four closets. There isn’t an en suite but the three bedrooms on the floor share two full baths, one with a bath and one with a shower. The listing notes both have been renovated, and the one pictured has a sleek marble topped wood vanity. A third full bath is on the floor above.

There is a final half bath in the finished basement, along with a laundry room and flexible area with space for a family room, gym or other use.

In addition to the front porch, which retains its wood slatted ceiling, the outdoor space includes a stone-sided rear deck with room for dining and a small lawn with planting beds. Adjacent to the garage is a paved seating area and in the corner of the yard is what the listing refers to as a treehouse but, at least going by the photo, appears to be an elevated shed.

The property was last on the market in 2001. It is currently listed with Rebekah Carver of Douglas Elliman at $2.8 million. Worth the ask?
