This garden-level apartment for rent in the Park Slope Historic District has no garden access, alas, but it does have two bedrooms, a dishwasher, and in-unit laundry. It’s located in an 1890s two-family brownstone at 553 2nd Street.

The main room — formerly the house’s dining room — is a looker, with well preserved crown moldings, oak wainscoting, and a carved mantel with original tile and iron insert. Its bay window is curved, and the wood floor appears original. It’s big, too, 27 feet long, with space for lounging, dining, and perhaps a desk.

The kitchen is in a separate room (the former pantry) and has a checkered tile backsplash, white cupboards, and stone counter.

In the rear are two sizable bedrooms, both with windows and closets. The bigger of the two also features a built-in wardrobe with drawers.

The bathroom, not pictured, has a tub, according to the floor plan, and the laundry takes up half a closet in the hall. There is also a coat closet near the front door, for a total of five closets in the unit.

One possible drawback that could be a deal killer for some: All the windows in the apartment have bars.

Listed by Sandra Cordoba and Clare Saliba of Compass, the two-bedroom is priced at $4,500 a month. Worth it?
