non working fireplaces are usually closed off/bricked off at roof.
The one Cheever house, I would bet went for close to ask.$2.195…
Smaller than Strong place but quite a bit. Maybe Cheever has changed but certainly not as pretty as Strong Pl.
Many of us might find AMity more convenient (which house was it there that sold) – but Strong for people with kids
Strong has the better elementary school.
AMity would go to school on Dean which is good but not like the one on Henry.
Gotcha, CGar
CGar, as your future duplex tenant, I agree with you – that strong pl is too pricey.
Actually, DH, the entire house leaked like a sieve, so open fireplaces were the least of it. The people I bought from had installed the cheapest, worst replacement windows, and their were gaping gaps between many of the windows and the frames. As for the non-working WBFs, I recall the dampers were sealed, so there really was no draft, even though the hearth was open.
don’t you end up paying more in heating costs when you don’t brick up fireplaces in a house? i would imagine it could get very drafty.
The 1 of the 4 that I alluded to not liking is the Gowanus house, though I’ve taken a strange liking to Gowanus ever since Bell Tolls.
Biff, I totally agree about bricked up fireplaces — I had a couple of non-working fireplaces in my house, but they still had marble mantles and looked the same as the working WBFs.
DH, I like the South Slope place too. Only gripe is I hate seeing fireplaces all bricked up.
Pete, that house on Amity recently sold for $2.2, a beautiful block and nicer location IMHO. And there are 3 on Cheever asking or in contract under $2 million. Cheever is a nice long internal block, just like Strong Place, but it is closer to Hicks and the BQE. Still, I’d rather pay $1 million less for my house and live on Cheever.
