NY Times Does Real Estate Blogs

While we weren’t thrilled with our photo (Mrs. B says it looks like we have a bunch of marbles in our mouth), we can’t complain about the exposure we got, along with four other real estate blogs, in yesterday’s New York Times. These kind of trend pieces are always tricky and a little bit of a stretch, but there wasn’t anything too cringe-worthy or off-the-mark in this one. (Interestingly, it didn’t result in much of an up-tick in visits to the site over the weekend; we witnessed the same non-effect when Brownstoner was the subject of a cover story in New York Magazine last spring. Our theory: Most people consume this type of media in the bathroom!) Because the story was reported six weeks ago, though, there was some information which was already a little outdated. Back then we were reporting that traffic and ad revenues were flat; since then, traffic has gone up considerably while ad revenues have fallen quite a bit. What did readers think of the article?
And the Blog Goes On [NY Times]
running a site is not for the faint of heart. often scratched my head when my brand’s site had an uptick for no reason, but some digging would show (via referring sites tracking) that suzie-homemaker’s blog in nashville mentioned us…never underestimate the ‘mavens’ as Gladwell calls them.
well, we won’t have the full traffic numbers for yesterday for another couple of hours, but saturday’s numbers were only up very modestly; then again, last thursday was the second-biggest day ever with no obvious explanation. strange stuff.
My guess is there was no uptick because of the NYT coverage a few weeks ago. Same readership. Anyone not intrigued then would not be intrigued now.
congrats mr.b.
odd that there wasnt an uptick in uniques. i work in marketing and once in a while there’s that advertising anomoly that results in zero needle movement w/no explanation.
maybe the article wasn’t widely read, or people are just hiding from the market in every way.
Brownstoner – are you sleeping with someone at the Times? I mean you have a great Blog and all but its like an every week mention at this point.
oh seriously. curbed’s comments are just down right nasty and juvenile. even the non anonymous posts. plus i swear it’s always the same three comments for every single thread, regardless or topic.
*rob*
Congratulations, Mr. B and MM.
I agree with Saint Montrose that we have a much nicer community on Brownstoner than over at Curbed. I’ve stopped reading Curbed because I think his constant snark-at-any-price attracts the nut jobs.
Regarding the photos: is it just me, or did the photos stike anyone as a group of guys who belonged to the same fraternity 15 years go?
Thanks, Slopefarm, but I would never do that. (Cue Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” here, now.)
Real estate may make people crazy, as Curbed’s Lockhart Steele says, but his site is full of some of the nastiest commentators this side of Ann Coulter. Brownstoner really is a community, nutballs and all, and I enjoy reading and participating in it.
Mr.B, the picture isn’t that bad. At least you aren’t upside down.
Very nice article which seemed well balanced and neat little exposure you Mr B. Congratulations
The What if this blogg sucks why are you so obsessed with it?
Don’t you have anything better to do? We are willing to bet your opinion will be in the minority by far. Get a life What and learn how to be a human. We were going to say stop being a moron but that would be insulting the poor morons!
MM we are proud of you:)
