A company that provides lighting and equipment rentals to Brooklyn filmmakers has leased a 72,000 square foot space in Gowanus according to The Real Deal. Eastern Effects signed a ten year lease on the space at 99 9th Street. Apparently, business is booming thanks to a 30 percent tax credit for productions shot in New York that was renewed two years ago. Steiner Studios is expanding it space in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. And more filmmakers are in the pipeline. Pratt Institute recently announced its plans to quadruple the enrollment in its film and video program and is expanding into a 17,000 square foot space currently occupied by its bookstore.
