This rental unit in the Newswalk condominiums, at 535 Dean Street in Prospect Heights, is a real-deal loft. It is not “loft-like,” or an apartment with a “loft-ish feel.”

It’s a big huge open space with a soaring ceiling in a former industrial building, with an open kitchen and a bedroom that’s partitioned off, but not a fully separate room.

In total it’s around 1,100 square feet, renting for $3,950 a month.

There is one fully separate, enclosed room at the rear — but it’s not technically a bedroom because there is no window or skylight. The listing says the apartment is a two-bedroom, but the text in the listing calls this space a nursery (as it’s shown in the photo), and the floor plan calls it an office.

Judging by the photo, it doesn’t look like even a single bed would really work in there, so if you define a bedroom as “a room with a bed in it,” then it’d be better to rate this unit a “one-plus” (or even a studio-plus) rather than a two.

There’s also a lofted office space a few steps up from the main bedroom. And there’s a lot of light from that huge wall of windows at the rear, through which you can apparently see the Empire State Building. (On the minus side, that’s the only wall with any exposure.)

The building, a stone’s throw from the Barclays Center, has a full-time doorman, a fitness center, a laundry room, and a huge common roof deck. It’s also got an indoor garage with Zipcars, a nice thing if you’re an occasional car renter.

The unit, just listed by Halstead brokers Christopher Kromer and Nora Arrifin, is available September 1. What do you make of thee place, and the nearly $4K rent?
