*rob*, my sense has always been that (some) people are willing to pay a premium for a pre-owned celebrity house.
Absolutely stunned by Ft Greene house. We looked at it twice and ultimately passed because they were seemingly not budging on price and there seemed a bit of work to do with both the kitchen and the master bath, which was essentially a throne and tile bedecked room upstairs. Lots of steps and levels and so on. I guess if it were someone’s taste as is, it could have seemed conceivably priced within 10% of where it would sell. But OVER? Shocked.
The “stink” that guiliani raised over that Blessed Virgin Mary thing gave it all the publicity it needed to become one of the most viewed exhibits ever.
Additionally, if you remember, Saturday Night Live did a skit where they went around brooklyn and filmed other Blessed Virgin Marys in many appropritely religious backyard venues where usually an upended bathtub was invloved as the grotto.
I couldn’t find the link but I did find one that’s really funny…

Dave, I’m looking at condos and co-ops at the moment, and there’s nothing on the market in Brooklyn Heights-Cobble Hill right now either. Not all that much in the way of houses either for that matter. I assume the Spring inventory will start being released next month.
dumb question, but do houses that previously housed celebrities usually go for more? im assuming probably.? also is there a difference between dung and poop? (it was mentioned in the post im not just randomly asking) i totally remember that artist and the contraversy. guiliani was such a stick in the mud. (or dung)

antidope, the haters will be along soon. They’ll point out that these are just 4 sales and there are other properties out there that aren’t selling. Too bad there’s no real inventory anywhere in brooklyn for a brownstone.
There’s absolutely nothing nice on the market in bed Stuy, save a few totally unrealistic prices even for 2007-2008 standards.
I think $1.4m is a great price for the Boerum Hill house. I remember liking the house, but not so much the finishes, which are easy enough to redo. (I was going to make an offer, but then the broker told me the dog doesn’t go with the house.)
Team Bull;
Beers are in the refrigerator! Anyone want to order some pizza too?
Re: Fort Greene House. I think houses sold by celebrities and bought by celebrities go at a premium. Under other circumstances I really think the price would have been more like 2.5-2.6, or closer to the standard widget gap.
