The folks over at Curbed bring us news that One Brooklyn Bridge Park, the warehouse-turned-luxury-condos (and now rentals), is handing out cars with units priced over $2 million, along with a parking spot to berth it. And this isn’t the first luxury development to launch such a campaign, apparently: Windows on 123 in Harlem and 727 Prospect Place in Prospect Heights have both offered internal combustion engines to lure buyers. Curbed points out that the Audi A4 lists in the low $30,000s, which might be beneath any buyers who are capable of dropping $2 million on a condominium, but let those marketers try. GMAP

  1. VW’s/Audi’s are notorious for electrical problems.

I have owned 4 VW’s and 2 Audi’s throughout the years, so I should know. The only redeeming quality of the Audi brand is their Quattro legacy.

  2. What person in their right mind with the money to afford an apartment at 1BBP would choose to live with a view right onto the BQE? Maybe they should have made the water side condos and the BQE side offices. Or a prison.

  3. re: “pretty sure that plan was scrapped”

One Brooklyn Bridge Park is already making payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs) to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation. Senior staff at the development corporation report that the funds paid to date and in the future are sufficient to pay for park maintenance and operation until 2013. By that time, additional development (as approved in the general project plan) will need to come on line to generate greater revenue.

  4. What’s wrong with VWs? I like them a lot.
I like Audis even more – just not sure if they’re worth the premium over the equivalent VW.

Anyways, Mr Scheff has it right – wrong car for a $2m pad. There have been similar schemes in the UK, mostly by private sellers, that have offered porsches and ferraris to go with the house.
