Remember in the beginning of the summer when Community Board 2 wasn’t too keen on the idea of the Human Resources Administration signing a lease at 470 Vanderbilt? And then the HRA withdrew its application? Well, at Tuesday’s CB2 meeting the HRA came with a revamped plan which ended up getting approved by the board. HRA addressed CB2’s main concerns about the traffic and loitering impact on the neighborhood. To decrease loitering, there will be additional security guards hired for the site. And after polling of HRA employees, most plan to take public transportation to 470 Vanderbilt. There is very little extra parking in the area, but DOT will look into freeing 121 spots by eliminating some parking restrictions on Atlantic and Cumberland. HRA is also looking to provide shuttle service to 470 Vanderbilt from the Atlantic Avenue subway, although it would be strictly for city employees. The good news for business owners in the area is that the 1,800 staff and 1,500 visitors will bring an estimated two to four million dollars in economic activity to the area. (Over what time period was not specified.) HRA is shooting for a Spring 2012 move in.
