prospect-heights-houses-0709.jpgThe Prospect Heights House tour is always a fun one so we’re hoping this post will inspire some local homeowners to step up to the plate and volunteer to be on this year’s tour, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 18th from 1-5 p.m. The organizers are looking for a wide range of homes, including apartments as well as houses, new as well as old. If you are interested, please contact Bob Biegen at biegen AT aol DOT com to schedule a walk-through with the organizers. For old time’s sake, you can also go check out this video we made (along with the help of rumur.tv) of the tour two years ago.

  1. bklynrosie,

I’ve had my house on the PLG tour four times, over a 30+ year period. I’ve always enjoyed it and never had a problem–not even the snarky kind on this site. If, as grand army writes, the PH tour is as mellow as our’s, you’ll be glad you put your house on.

    bktycoon,

We’ve had apartments on the last two PLG tours. I don’t know what PH’s plans are, but don’t rule it out.

  2. Rosie,

Our house was on in 2004. We only got lovely comments. In person, people are very polite and considerate. And they have lots of fun stories about the neighborhood or about their own renovations (including leads on trades people and where to buy stuff). It’s only online you get the flame wars — and then I suspect half the time the people snarking didn’t even go on the tour in the first place!

I go on several house tours every year and while I know I’m biased because I live in PH, I think our tour is one of the mellowest and most neighborly (maybe along with Prospect Lefferts).

  3. Someone approached us about putting our house on the PH house tour recently. I’m toying with the idea but am a little nervous. Don’t know if I can take all the snark and people judging our taste, etc. I’m a sensitive soul 😉

  4. GoodPropsect – will you be putting your house on the tour again? I’m looking forward to this tour. I’d love to get more familiar with the area and will finally be able to walk by then! 🙂

  5. Our house was on the house tour two years ago and it was a lot of fun. There were a lot of people through our house that day, including the two Mr. Bs — Mr. Brownstoner/Butler and Mr. Brooklyn/Markowitz — but everyone was lovely. It was a very nice experience as a homeowner and as a member of the PH community. I encourage anyone who might consider opening their home to the House Tour to do so!
