Park Slope Brooklyn House for Sale -- 838 Carroll Street

If it’s grandeur and opulence you’re after, look no further than this palatial Romanesque Revival brownstone, at 838 Carroll Street in Park Slope. Dubbed the Remington House, after the initial owner, who commissioned the house from architect C.P.H. Gilbert in the late 1880s, it’s got rich detail, acres of space, architectural distinction, a curved bay tower, and a price tag of $15 million.

If it goes for that amount, notes the Real Deal, it’ll be the second-priciest townhouse ever sold in the borough.

It’s actually got a garden-level apartment that could serve as a rental, though the listing, anticipating the unlikelihood that a buyer at this price point is going to want to bother with pesky tenants under their roof, suggests it’d serve nicely as an “in-law or au pair suite.”

At 32 feet in width, with a center staircase, the house is massive, with 13 wood-burning fireplaces, 10 bathrooms, eight bedrooms and all kinds of other sizable spaces that can be put to various uses — offices, libraries, dens, family rooms.

It’s got a full-floor master suite with walk-through closets and a bath done up in Calacatta gold marble.

The whole place was restored/renovated by a pair of buyers who paid $3.8 million for the house two years ago. (In fact, it was the same duo who flipped Park Slope’s famous pink house, according to the Real Deal.)

They added a security system, new mechanicals, a new roof, new plumbing and electric and restored the facade, according to the listing, from Douglas Elliman brokers Lisa Interdonato, Raymond Dillulio, Fredrik Elklund and John Gomes.

They are also in the process of changing the certificate of occupancy from a four-family to a two-family, according to public records.

With an ask of $15 million, they’re looking for a fairly significant return on that investment. Think they’ve got a shot at it? How do you like the house?

  1. They’ll be lucky to get 10. I really doubt they sank 3 million into the Reno , let’s say they invested 2 million , the number is now $5.8 million anyone really think they will get a 4.2 million profit ? I call Bulls— on this one.
