This house at 79 Saint Marks Place hit the market earlier this month with an asking price of $1,795,000. While that kind of price tag doesn’t raise eyebrows in most of the North Slope, this place is just steps from 4th Avenue. The owner’s done a pretty substantial renovation that has resulted in a modern, light-filled ground floor that includes an attractive open kitchen. Unfortunately the listing’s pretty thin on photos of the rest of the house, but it sounds like the second and third floors (both separate apartments bringing in close to $6,000 a month collectively) have not been renovated. If those rents are real, then we can see how you get to this sales price even if it feels a little high as a three-story single-family.

  1. The price seems silly — especially for this rather gloomy, shabby block — but the ground floor renovation looks rather interesting from a design pov. I like the large rear room with lots of light and the interior den. The lack of photos is, however, very suspicious.
