This bay front brick house at 108 72nd Street is a charmer. The Bay Ridge pad has lots of original architectural detail along with modernized kitchen and bathrooms (which are perfectly tasteful but not eye-popping). The house also sits on a beautiful block and only half a block from Owl’s Head Park. The asking price is $779,000, which sounds reasonable to us. What do the Bay Ridgers in the crowd make of it?

  1. “Yeah, not often we stray far from the Brownstone belt – and folks are probably hopeful that HOLY SNIKIES, maybe just maybe I can still find a Brooklyn nabe I can afford a house in!!”

I hope they don’t discover Bay Ridge. It’s a disgusting nabe with hideous housing stock. NO townhouses, bricks or Victorians or nice apt. buildings here. The restaurants suck and there aren’t any stores to shop at. Best to stay north of 65th street.

  2. Another Bay Ridge fan here, hence my initial comment. Never been out there in the evening but I have walked around a lot of the streets and the park along the shore. It’s a pleasant and relaxing place, IMO.

haha, you people are having a lovefest about Bay Ridge.

  4. Great feedback today, nice to see so many different contributors.

That makes sense. I have no idea the construction dates of my friends homes, but they are side-by-side duplex brick construction, so would just after WWII be accurate? One is on Gelston, south of 86th, the other on 94th, west of 4th Ave.

Really need to explore further north where the HotD is to get a better feel. I have been over around Shore Road (different stratosphere), but haven’t spent enough time around other parts.

  5. “I can afford to buy a house in bay ridge now vs. the eternal wait with brownstone BK.”

Bay Ridge overvalued too, m4l. Your wife is right to wanna wait. Nowhere is immune. Buy anywhere in Brooklyn at prevailing prices and the depreciation you would experience would appear far sooner than eternal. Can you afford to lose 37.5% of your purchase price? [I’m so goddamn nosy!]

    ***Bid half off peak comps***

  6. Many people in Bay Ridge drive to work so there is plenty of available parking during the day. At night, it’s a different story since there are oodles of restaurants along 5th/3rd and most folks do drive to them (Valet parking, baby!). Our nightlife scene also serves neighboring Dyker Hts, Bensonhurst, and gasp, Staten Island – 99% of those people drive to the Ridge. For any of you considering Bay Ridge – walk around the low 80’s between Shore Rd/Ridge Blvd, walk 5th Ave, visit the Botanical Gardens……
