House of the Day: 858 Carroll Street
This gorgeous Romanesque Revival house at 858 Carroll Street in Park Slope just hit the market with an asking price of $3,895,000. That’s a lot of dough even for prime Slope, but this place is five stories tall and more than 22 feet wide, so maybe it’s not out of the question. The house, which…

The house, which is just down the block from Prospect Park, has all of its original charm (though without many of the details of some of the nearby Victorian homes) and has also had a recent renovation; the kitchen in particular looks extremely well done. Well, how about it? Is this price possible?

And the 7′-7″ wide ‘bedrooms’ on the Fifth floor are useless. Should have turned that floor into a roller rink.
How can you all tell that this is a beautiful house with only 6 pictures?
And frankly, it looks average to me. It’s not dripping with gorgeous detail but is clean and understated; which isn’t a bad thing. But I wouldn’t sit around and rave about it’s killer interior details.
No ensuite master bathroom, but a smaller bedroom on the fourth floor has one. That’s brilliant!
I guess when you are spending over $3MM you really do not care about things like what the baths look like because you can spend another $500K and do what you like.
hedge funds usually don’t have ceos like rowhouses don’t have kitchens on the parlor level.
more like managing partner or some such nonsense.
This is truly prime — a beautiful home for a large family. I don’t think they’ll get their asking price, but I’m sure it will crack the $3 million mark.
looked at the plans again, my gosh so beautifully preserved, this is a dream, even the original service stair to the butler’s pantry is there. And the master bedroom has the original walk-in closets with sinks. A preservationist’s ideal home. Or how about a preservationist married to a hedge fund CEO?
en suite master bathrooms are just gross. who wants poo mist all over their 1000 dollar sheets!? they are only good to keep other people that might live in your house from seeing any of the riff-raff you might bring home, or if youre secretly bulimic or incontinent.

This house is definitely worth it, especially on days in May when it is 92 degrees and there is central AC. What will it be like in June and July in Park Slope?
a beauty for sure.
not sure of value on a per clam basis.
