House of the Day: 494 East 16th Street
This house at 494 East 16th Street has a lot going for it. It’s not the biggest or the fanciest house in Ditmas Park, but the corner house has some beautiful floors, beams and moldings to recommend it. The 2,900-square-foot pad sold for $930,000 in 2007 and is now asking $1,035,000. Reasonable? 494 East 16th…

“The large houses and tall trees are positively repulsive. Steer clear, folks. Avert your eyes!”
You crack me up.
“The fact that it’s about 30 mins from midtown by choo choo doesn’t seem to counteract the impression that this is the same as living in Westchester or Nassau.”
The parts of Westchester that look like Ditmas are 30 minutes or less from Midtown by train, too. As are Maplewood, Montclair, etc. But none of the above appeals to me, personally. I like my city to be city-ish and my burbs to be country-ish.
Rob–glad you enjoed “Brookurbia.”
This isn’t a brownstone, and it’s not in a brownstone neighborhood.
I’m with Tybur: Brownstoner Go Home!
This is seven hours from lower Manhattan when the train isn’t delayed. The neighborhood only appeals to suburbanites and the criminals who prey on them. Nothing here. Look elsewhere. Go ‘way.
Rob, doctors and lawyers are the new middle-class. If they wanted to be rich they should have dropped out of high school and become reality-TV stars.
tybur6,
If you think this is a 30 minute commute to midtown, I think its high time you took that real estate course and got your license, because you are clearly ready.
the whole concept has just gotten so beyond sad. this is supposed to be a middle class in a middle class neighborhood, yet it’s priced only for power couples consisting of doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc.

Like this house a lot. I’m love the coffered ceiling. House needs more color inside and less color outside IMO. Wish there were kitch/bath pics 🙁
Yeah… folks don’t seem to like grass and trees for some reason. The fact that it’s about 30 mins from midtown by choo choo doesn’t seem to counteract the impression that this is the same as living in Westchester or Nassau.
Odd folks. They’d rather live in Bay Ridge than have a yard.
This house is great, I’d buy it in a second if I could even fathom what $1,000,000 meant.
