Here’s a modest but attractive house in good shape at an accessible price: 871 East 15th Street. The two-story brick is only 1,500 square feet, but it’s got three bedrooms, a front porch and backyard. The original parquet floors and other wood details have a lot of charm. All for $575,000. What do you think?

  1. yeah, I netted mine against the fence, and they came right through the holes in the chainlink. Will try a complete surround this year.

    As far as repellents, I’ve tried everything from Critter Ridder to chili powder. No luck. Bobcat urine?

  2. FLH…probably take it off next week. On the apple tree, I’m going to net it, use mothballs and some urine-based repellant on the ground.

    When this tree was less accessible (in the middle of the yard) the squirrels didn’t seem to know about it and I had 5-6 great apples. About 2 years ago I moved to closer to the fence and that’s their main runway into the yard so they go from the fence right through the tree. Maybe I should put spikes on the top of the fence!!!!!

  3. hey Dave,

    I’ve got figs and apples as well. My fig’s about 6ft tall, and I wrapped it in burlap too. Did that protect it for you last year? WHen are you planning to unwrap? Feels like we should be getting close.

    I netted the apples last year, but the squirrels still found a way in.

    Kensington, you’ve actually been in this house? It’s that bad? 🙁

  5. They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
    And their spears into pruning hooks;
    Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
    Neither shall they learn war anymore.
    But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree,

    If you also have a grape vine in your yard, you’re set!
