One word: Wow! This new listing at 946 President Street in Park Slope is stunning. Designed in 1886 by by Charles T. Mott, the Romanesque Revival house is more than 25 feet wide and dripping, absolutely dripping, in period detail. It’s also been updated with a new kitchen, modern HVAC and updated bathrooms. Droolworthy to say the least. So much so that we won’t be surprised if someone steps up for close to the asking price of $3,795,000.

  1. I am somewhat surprised and very impressed that there seem to be people out there who have, and would spend, three million dollars on a property like this in Park Slope Brooklyn.
I have to make a big confession here, I think if I had that kind of money, I would not opt for Brooklyn. But then I moved here a long time ago, when it was the poor man’s Queens.

When I say I love this house, I mean I love the exterior and the details. As far as the decor goes, it’s not my taste and if I were the new owner, I’d totally redo the interior.

I have no idea why people on here are so consumed with wallpaper and wall color. When someone drops this kind of money on a house, they will renovate the interior to their own personal taste. That doesn’t mean making it a modern interior (as Pigeon jokes about) but just making it suit their style.

The Google folks who bought that gorgeous Mansion on PPW is totally renovating what I’m sure was a lovely home for the former owners. But still…they are redoing it to suit them more specifically.

All the talk about hating a certain chair or a certain room’s wallpaper seems rather absurd to me, since none of that will probably remain after the new owners put their own personality on this home.

  3. There was a This Old House about 6 years or so ago where they used bradbury wallpaper. They also took us to the factory and showed how it was made.

To have it hung professionally is likely to be the bigger expense!!!

As Ysabelle pointed out a few years ago, anything well hung is worth paying extra.

  4. Chuck, you can explore Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper to your heart’s content at http://www.bradbury.com. I am constantly searching eBay hoping that someone will be selling a bunch of castoff rolls. As it happens, right now someone on eBay is selling 180′ of a nice Bradbury border, but the colors (some kind of weird custom job) are wrong for me. Should make someone else happy, though!

  5. Pigeon, you can landmark your interior by putting it in the deed. Sadly, though, I think your house has to be in a landmarked area for it to be legal. This one probably is in such an area though.
